Exactly what I wanted

I looked pretty hard for a simple, intuitive task app with both subtasks and recurring tasks, and seriously considered writing my own after wading through apps that were either way too full of features/difficult to navigate, or way too sparse.

Luckily I found gTasks. It was perfect even without the google integration. Im extremely happy with it, and highly recommend people try it out.
